Hannibal home catches fire from refrigerator and extension cord malfunction, no injuries reported
HANNIBAL, Mo. — An unknown electrical malfunction of a refrigerator and extension cord has been determined as the cause of a Thursday night fire.
The Hannibal Fire Department was dispatched at 8:41 p.m. Thursday, March 23 for a report of a structure fire located at 2221 Chestnut. HFD responded with eight personnel. An additional 6 off-duty personnel were later requested.
Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from a two-story wood frame structure. The occupant was out of the residence at the time of the fire. The fire was contained in approximately 30 minutes, with crews on scene for overhaul and salvage for approximately two hours.
Investigators from the Hannibal Fire Department were called. HFD was assisted on the scene by the Hannibal Police Department, Marion County Ambulance District, Hannibal Building Inspectors Office, Hannibal Board of Public Works and the American Red Cross.
