Letter to the Editor: Uzelac’s water shutoff suggestion belongs in Chicago, not Quincy

I am writing this letter in support of Tim Siemer for 7th Ward alderman.  After the last 4 years it’s very clear that we need a new face in the 7th Ward.  We need an alderman that is attentive to the needs of that ward and just as importantly attentive to the needs of the city.

The current alderman, Democrat Ben Uzelac, wanted the water services turned off to businesses not complying with shutdown and masking orders during COVID.  Ben made this suggestion in a city council meeting and fortunately it fell on deaf ears with the remaining alderman.  This sort of tactic is one you would expect to occur in a Chicago city council meeting, not in Quincy.  Running a business during COVID was challenging enough with Pritzker’s executive orders, the last thing we needed in Quincy was to have orders come at the local level as well.  We need an alderman who is engaged in the needs of their ward and the city.

Uzelac showed us that he’s out of touch with the voters in making such a ridiculous suggestion.

I run multiple businesses employing around 50 people within the Quincy community.  Those employees depend on their place of employment being open and able to operate.  While I don’t reside in the 7th ward, this race is about more than that, we can’t allow Uzelac to continue to have a voice on the council.  Businesses need the city to support them, not fight them to enforce illegal executive orders by the governor.

Tim Siemer will be the voice that supports the 7th Ward and the entire city of Quincy.  It’s time for a change to support businesses and residents in Quincy.  I urge the 7th Ward residents to go vote for Tim Siemer in the April 4th election next week.
