Network of independent contractors launching curbside recycling program in Quincy
QUINCY — A Quincy business offering on-demand help with everyday tasks is launching a recycling pick-up program in response to the discontinuation of the City of Quincy’s curbside recycling program.
JustTasking, which started in August 2022, will deliver recycling totes directly to the doorsteps of Quincy residents for a one-time set-up fee of $20. Residents can choose between weekly or bi-weekly pick-up options. They will be billed $15 per pick-up visit. A JustTasking provider will take all recyclable items to a nearby sorting facility, then return the totes to the resident’s doorstep.
“The decision just came from knowing there was going to be a need without curbside pickup,” said Jarid Jones, founder and CEO of JustTasking. “It’s just as simple as offering a service for people who might not have the same sort of accessibility to put their items on the curbside for pickup. We’re just meeting needs and filling needs. It’s a simple task for us to step into as part of the original kinds of tasks that we already do. We are confident it will make a positive impact on the community.”
The City of Quincy’s curbside recycling program ended March 3. Instead, residents now can take recyclable materials to three locations — the HyVee grocery store on Harrison, 12th and Locust next to the entrance of the Illinois Veterans Home and Home Depot, 5432 Broadway.
JustTasking offers a network of independent contractors willing to assist people around Quincy in a variety of tasks. Jones said he recently has seen JustTasking contractors help put together a fireplace, move furniture, assemble a desk for a new office space or simply do a wellness check on a family member.
“We are working with entrepreneurs,” Jones said. “These are people who have extra time, who want to make a little extra money. We have a handful of taskers who are pretty flexible with their time and can offer these solutions. Our motto is, ‘If you can’t, we know who can.’ We leverage our network of Taskers to connect users to the right people for their tasks when they need them. We’re hoping to continue to grow.”
Residents can sign up for the JustTasking recycling pick-up program by creating a free account and completing the recycling program interest form at JustTasking.com/recycle. A JustTasking team member will follow up, and recycling totes will be delivered within 7-10 business days.
“I always say, ‘Turn your skills into dollar bills,’”Jones said.
