Quincy Community Theatre to hold Discovery Night on Tuesday for production of ‘Rent’

RENT

QUINCY — Quincy Community Theatre will hold a Discovery Night for its upcoming production of ‘Rent’ from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 11. There is no cost to attend. Registration is not required.

Based loosely on Puccini’s “La Boheme,” Jonathan Larson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning “Rent” follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York’s Lower East Side under the shadow of HIV/AIDS. How these young bohemians negotiate their dreams, loves and conflicts provides the narrative thread to this musical.

In a press release, Brandon Thomsen, the show’s director, said, “’Rent’ is a musical that has touched the hearts of millions. It’s a story of love, community, and working through fear. Discovery Night is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the show, our unique approach to it and why it’s an important story to keep telling.”

Thomsen and head of education/director of student theatre Brendan Shea will be the hosts of Discovery Night. Community partners from the Adams County Health Department will join in a discussion about the HIV/AIDS themes present in the show. The event will allow audience questions and answers with the panel of production team, cast and community partners. Discovery Night will include a preview of a performance from the show in the Barbara Rowell Auditorium.

“Rent” will take the stage at Quincy Community Theatre on April 21-23 and April 27-30. Tickets are on sale now, beginning at $27. Seating is reserved. For more information, visit 1qct.org or call the QCT box office in the Oakley-Lindsay Center at 217-222-3209.

“Rent” is sponsored by Knapheide and KHQA. QCT’s 2023 season is sponsored by Gardner Denver.
