HANNIBAL, Mo. — A Hannibal man with a felony parole warrant unsuccessfully tried to escape officers with the Hannibal Police Department and was arrested Tuesday afternoon.

NECOMM advised Hannibal officers at approximately 3:25 p.m. that a deputy with the Adams County Sheriff’s Department was pursuing a westbound grey Dodge Dart on Interstate 72. Hannibal officers were familiar with the vehicle because of prior contacts with police. Officers saw the vehicle and recognized the driver, Quinton Long, 27, who had a felony parole warrant for dangerous drugs out of Pike County, Mo.

Officers attempted to stop Long, who tried to flee. Due to the recklessness of Long’s driving, the pursuit was quickly terminated by officers. The Dodge Dart was found near the intersection of Grace and Virginia. Officers knew Long frequented a home in the 1200 block of Broadway.

As officers approached the home, they saw Long looking out a window. Officers surrounded the home and established Long had barricaded himself in the attic. The Special Response Team was activated and responded to the scene. A SRT member saw Long armed with a taser and knife in the attic. Long said he was going to charge the officers and force officers to shoot him.

SRT disengaged, then deployed pepper spray into the attic, making Long uncomfortable. He surrendered peacefully. Officers took Long to Hannibal Regional Hospital to decontaminate from the attic insulation and pepper spray, then took him to the Marion County Jail.

The Hannibal Police Department was assisted by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol.
