Quincy Art Center to celebrate 100th anniversary with open house Saturday
QUINCY — Quincy Art Center has maintained an interesting collection of art from local, regional and internationally-renowned artists. One hundred pieces from this collection are now on display, and the public is invited to celebrate the Art Center’s 100th anniversary.
An open reception from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, April 15, will feature “100th Anniversary Selections from the Permanent Collection.” Art Center staff will be available to talk about the exhibit, upcoming classes and other programs.
The exhibit includes pieces by Fritzi Morrison, Wayne Thiebaud, Pablo Picasso and more. The Art Center’s collection focuses primarily on works on paper by Midwestern artists, past and contemporary.
The open reception will be a recognition of World Art Day, observed on April 15 every year. World Art Day celebrations help reinforce the links between artistic creations and society, encourage greater awareness of the diversity of artistic expressions and highlight the contribution of artists to sustainable development.
The “100th Anniversary Selections from the Permanent Collection” exhibit is on display through April 29 and is underwritten by Moore’s Floors, George and Mary Nell Meyer, Doris Malacarne, Tom and Kai Ortbal and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Vecchie.
It’s free to view exhibits at the Art Center, 1515 Jersey. The Art Center is open from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. For more information, visit quincyartcenter.org or call 217-223-5900.
