QUINCY — A scam awareness seminar, “Don’t Get Hooked!”, for older adults and their family members to learn how to protect themselves from scams and frauds will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 5 at the Quincy Senior & Family Resource Center, 639 York.

Speakers from the Quincy Police Department, Better Business Bureau, Illinois Office of the Attorney General, and the West Central Illinois Area Agency on Aging’s Senior Medicare Patrol program will offer tips for avoiding scams and what to do if someone believes they have been scammed.

In a press release, Mary Crawford of the West Central Illinois Area Agency on Aging and a local program contact for the Illinois Senior Medicare Patrol program, said, “Unfortunately, scammers are always finding new and creative ways to steal. By increasing awareness of the scams out there and offering tips to avoid getting scammed, we hope to reduce the number of people who are impacted.”

Anyone interested in attending should reserve a seat by calling the Quincy Senior & Family Resource Center at 217-223-5700.
