Two troopers with Missouri State Highway Patrol to retire June 1

MACON, Mo. — Two troopers will be retiring June 1 from the Missouri State Highway Patrol: Lt. Gregory K. Leftwich and Commercial Vehicle Officer Supervisor Kyndal L. Gordon.

Leftwich will retire with more than 33 years of dedicated service. He was appointed to the patrol on Jan. 1, 1990, as a member of the 62nd recruit class. After graduating from the patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop B, Zone 8, Marion and Ralls counties. On Jan. 1, 1996, he was promoted to corporal and designated assistant zone supervisor of Zone 9, Marion and Ralls counties.

On Oct. 1, 1999, he was promoted to sergeant and designated zone supervisor of Zone 8, Marion and Ralls counties. On Feb. 1, 2015, Leftwich was promoted to lieutenant and assigned to Troop C, Weldon Springs. On Sept. 1, 2020, Leftwich transferred to Troop B as a staff lieutenant. It is from this assignment that he retires.

During his career, Leftwich was assigned to numerous special assignments throughout the state. He is a native of Canton, Mo., and graduated from Canton High School. Leftwich attended Culver-Stockton College and holds an associate’s of arts degree in administration of justice from Mineral Area Community College.

Gordon served for more than 28 years. He joined the patrol on April 1, 1995, as a driver examiner and was assigned to Troop B. In May 2002, Gordon moved from driver examination to commercial motor vehicle enforcement as a commercial vehicle officer and remained in Troop B. In August 2021, Gordon was promoted to commercial vehicle officer supervisor and remained in Troop B.

Gordon grew up in Hannibal, Mo., and graduated from Hannibal High School in 1987. After high school, Gordon attended the American Institute of Business, where he graduated with an associate of business degree in administration/accounting.
