Annual strawberry festival is Melrose Chapel’s largest fundraiser

QUINCY — Melrose Chapel United Methodist Church, 3600 Payson Road, will be the host of its 148th annual strawberry festival from 3-7 p.m. Saturday, June 3. The event is the church’s largest fundraiser.

The strawberry festival features an array of strawberry desserts: a cup of strawberries, strawberry shortcakes, strawberry sundaes and strawberry supreme — a combination of a shortcake and a sundae. Sandwiches, chips, drinks and baked goods will be available.

In addition to the desserts, the church will also offer homemade strawberry jam for sale. A group of 12 volunteer “jammers” have produced 249 jars of strawberry jam from 90 pounds of strawberries. The process included preparing the strawberries, heating the jam mixture and pouring the jam into pint jars.
