DAILY DIRT: How about a double scoop of that tasty Beef Tongue ice cream?
Daily Dirt for Wednesday, May 31, 2023
We bid adieu to May with a look at some of the worst possible ice cream flavors ever concocted … Welcome to today’s three thoughts that make up Vol. 623 of The Daily Dirt.
1. Chocolate? Vanilla? Strawberry? Pralines and Cream? Mint Chocolate Chip?
What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
While there are literally dozens of flavors of ice cream I enjoy, there are some that make absolutely no sense. None. Nada. Nyet.
Here are 10 flavors — and the term is used loosely — that I cannot image anyone eating, yet they are produced on a regular basis … so SOMEONE has to be eating this stuff.
There are no rankings for these flavors because they are all equally disgusting:
- Garlic: If you have a problem with vampires, I supposed ot could be smart to keep a gall of this horrid stuff around.
- Octopus: This is available in Canada, Why exactly I have no idea. But it is.
- Breast milk: Whoaaaaa … Just whoaaaa. (Supposedly, this is a big hit in London.)
- Horsemeat: No, I’m not kidding. Honest. We can thank Japan for this little delicasy.
- Beef Tongue: Yep, blame this one on Japan, too.
- Pizza: Please don’t tell me there are mushrooms included.
- Black Licorice: Ugh. Simply ugh.
- Cheese: This also comes in a sugar-free form, thanks to the Arce Dairy in the Phillipines.
- Mustard: I presume it is yellow. (Side note: Baskin-Robbins once tested Ketchup ice cream, but apparently it was not a big hit with the consumers. Shocker.)
- Chicken Wing: Why not just buy some chicken wings?
2. This week’s happy birthday wishes go out to:
- Singer Tom (“It’s Not Unusual,” ” Delilah,” “What’s New Pussycat?”) Jones will be 83 on June 7.
- Singer Nancy (“These Boots Are Made Walkin'”) Sinatra turns 83 on June 8.
- Sports personality Dick Vitale will also blow out 83 candles on June 9.
- Actor Michael J. Fox will be 62 on June 9.
- Former NFL quarterback Joe Montana turns 67 on June 11.
3. One of my all-time favorite songs from a female artist is the epic 1980s ballad “Total Eclipse of the Heart” from Bonnie Tyler.
What I didn’t know about the song until recently was what famed songwriter Jim Steinman had in mind when he penned it. “I actually wrote (the song) to be a vampire love song,” Steinman said. “Its original title was ‘Vampires in Love’ because I was working on a musical of ‘Nosferatu,’ the other great vampire story.
“If anyone listens to the lyrics, they’re really like vampire lines. It’s all about the darkness, the power of darkness and love’s place in (the) dark.” Steinman has authored numerous hits over the years, including Air Supply’s “Making Love Out of Nothing at All” and Meatloaf’s “I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That)”.
