Illinois Humanities Road Scholar to discuss power of language to transform Tuesday at library

QUINCY — Quincy Public Library is offering a thought-provoking evening at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, in the large meeting room with renowned Illinois Humanities Road Scholar Ted Williams III.

The event, titled “Change our Language, Change our Politics,” aims to delve into the profound impact language has on shaping our political landscape.

Williams, an expert in the fields of linguistics and political discourse and political science faculty member at Kennedy-King College, has spent years exploring the intricate relationship between language and politics. Through his extensive research and insightful analysis, he brings a fresh perspective to how our choice of words shapes our collective understanding, biases, and political outcomes.

During his presentation, Williams will exploring the ways in which language influences political narratives, shapes public opinion and affects policy decisions. Drawing upon historical examples and contemporary case studies, he will demonstrate the potential language to transform political discourse and pave the way for positive change in our society.

This event is a part of the Illinois Humanities Road Scholars program, which aims to foster intellectual curiosity and critical thinking by connecting communities with leading scholars.
