Second gunman in August 2021 Fifth and Locust shooting sentenced

QUINCY — The second of four men involved in a 2021 shooting on Quincy’s east side has been sentenced.

Xavier Clark, 20, pled guilty on Monday to attempted aggravated discharge of a firearm and was sentenced to 5 1/2 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections by Judge Robert Adrian.

At about 2:30 a.m. on August 14, 2021, the Quincy Police Department received a report of a shooting. The victims reported that while driving in the area of Fifth and Locust, their vehicle, which was occupied by several individuals, was fired upon by individuals in another vehicle. The vehicle suffered damage from bullet strikes, but no persons were struck. The suspect vehicle fled the scene. Officers who responded to the scene, located multiple shell casings.

The subsequent investigation identified Duquan Smiley and Clark as participants in the shooting and both were arrested.

In July 2022, Smiley pled guilty to attempted aggravated discharge of a firearm and was sentenced to 7 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
