Miss Quincy wins two competitions on Friday at Miss Illinois pageant
QUINCY — Miss Quincy Shelby Rose won two competitions on Friday at the Miss Illinois pageant in Marion, Ill.
Rose, 19, a daughter of Mark and Melissa Rose of Quincy, won a $500 Women in Business scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to candidate who has declared a business major or is actively involved in the field of business.
Rose also won a $1,000 Miss America Quality of Life Scholarship. Introduced in 1988, the scholarship was the first community service award presented at the Miss America competition. It honors the memory of Jean Bartel, Miss America 1943.
The finals will be held Saturday night in the Marion Civic Center. The pageant has 26 contestants, and the top 11 finalists will be announced at 7:30 p.m. Those women will compete in talent, an on-stage question, evening gown and lifestyle and fitness. Five finalists will then be selected, and they will answer an on-stage question. The winner is expected to be announced at approximately 10 p.m.
Rose was crowned on Jan. 7 during the Miss Quincy Pageant at Quincy Community Theatre.
The winner of the Miss Illinois pageant will advance to the Miss America pageant. The official date and location of the 2024 pageant has not been announced.
