Salvation Army, Iles Elementary School, Young Life receive Quincy Service League Foundation grants
QUINCY — The Quincy Service League recently donated a total of $23,085 to The Salvation Army, Iles Elementary and Young Life.
The Salvation Army received $13,935 for its “Youth Outreach and Opportunity through SA Gaming” project. This program would exist to create a safe and positive environment for gamers to come together and build community by providing a safe physical environment as well as a virtual option for at-risk youths to gather to game while being monitored online by present, safe adults. This will help avoid inappropriate behaviors such as bullying and foul language. Pre-teens and teens will be taught heathy gaming etiquette, in-game communication, teamplay and leadership.
Iles Elementary received $5,500 for its “All Kids Bikes” project. This project will provide the school with enough bikes and helmets for each kindergartener to learn how to ride a bike while at school.
Young Life received $3,650 for its sound system project. This project will provide a new sound system for Young Life’s center to use for club meetings and programs.
This grant was established by Amelia Bauner, a retired teacher of 44 years, who died in May 2008 at age 99. She established the Amelia E. Bauner, Frances A. Hall and Walter J. Hall Charitable Fund to provide the Quincy Service League funds to be distributed for its charitable purposes.
