QUINCY — Adams County officials said Thursday morning they are “investigating our options” after hearing three doctors say during a Wednesday Zoom meeting that work should cease in the Adams County Courthouse because of unsafe air quality levels.

A press release issued Thursday morning by Assistant State’s Attorney Todd Eyler said the county has received a report conducted by Safestart Environmental of Buffalo Grove, Ill. Eyler also said the county is aware of the recommendations made by the company.

“There is not a quick or easy solution to the circumstances we now face,” Eyler wrote. “We are committed to finding a solution that protects both employees and visitors while also recognizing our obligation to be responsible stewards to the citizens of our county. We are working with experts in this area to remediate any problems within the courthouse, but this is not a situation that allows for impulsive or rash responses.

“We will work as quickly as possible to address the condition and concerns, but we ask for everyone’s patience as we determine the best possible course of action.”

The release says the primary concern of the Adams County Board is the health and safety of everyone who enters the courthouse, both employees and citizens.

Masks will be provided for any employee or visitor to the Adams County Courthouse who believes wearing a mask “would be in their best interest at this time.”
