Resurfacing project on Missouri Route 81 scheduled to begin Monday in Lewis County

Missouri-Department-of-Transportation

HANNIBAL, Mo. — A resurfacing project located on Missouri Route 81 from the Iowa State line to Route EE in Kahoka is expected to begin Monday, Aug. 7.

The $9,737,007 contract was awarded last year to W.L. Miller Company of Hamilton, Ill. The contract includes an additional resurfacing project located on U.S. 136 in Lewis County, from 2.5 miles east of Route BB to Route 61 near Alexandria. This project is scheduled to begin immediately following U.S. Route 136. All work is scheduled to be completed by Nov. 1, 2023.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane during the day at the location where crews are actively working for the duration of the project. For the safety of the crews and the traveling public, MoDOT reminds drivers to be attentive in work zones and make smart, safe driving choices behind the wheel, including putting down cell phones to eliminate distractions.

Flaggers and a pilot car will direct motorists through the work zone. Workers will be present during daylight hours, Monday through Friday. A 10-foot width restriction will be in place for the duration of the project. All work is weather dependent. Schedules are subject to change.

MoDOT encourages drivers to remember to obey all work zone signs and personnel. With an increased number of highway work zones in Missouri, all drivers are urged to pay attention every second while driving, especially through a work zone. Drivers can be informed of construction of their driving route by checking the MoDOT Traveler Information Map to see if any work zones will be encountered.
