QFD responds to house fire on city’s north side

QUINCY – The Quincy Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 932 N 4^th Street just before 4 p.m. Saturday. 

While enroute to the location, Quincy Police reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the residence and that all occupants were out of the residence. 

QFD Engine No. 4 attacked the fire from the alley on Chestnut Street and Engine No. 2 crews fought the fire from North 4^th Street.  Engine Companies No. 5 and 6 assisted at the scene with water supply, salvage and overhaul while Engine No. 3 crews assisted with manpower and investigation.  Crews were on the scene for more than five hours.

There was heavy fire damage to two rooms of the residence along with heavy heat, smoke and water damage throughout the rest of the residence. The fire left a mother and four children homeless, and they are being assisted by family members and The American Red Cross.  Occupants were alerted by the smell of smoke and the smoke detector.

The investigation revealed the fire started in a bedroom closet where a pile of clothes was located.   No ignition source was found in the area of origin.  The investigation remains open.

QFD had 15 personnel and 6 apparatus on scene and was assisted on scene by members of Adams County EMS, QPD and the QFD Rehab Team.  There were no reported injuries by firefighters or occupants.
