QFD responds to Sunday afternoon fire on city’s south side

QUINCY — The Quincy Fire Department was dispatched to a Structure at 2001 Monroe Street just before 3 p.m. Sunday.

Engine Companies Number 5, 3 and 2 responded along with the incident commander, who then called Engine Company 6 after he arrived on the scene.

Engine Co. #5 arrived on scene first and reported light smoke coming from a 1 ½ story residence and then made the initial attack on the fire, assisted by the additional crews.  The crew of Engine Co. #5 extinguished the fire while the other crews worked on ventilation and salvage.  The fire was located in a bedroom in the southeast quadrant of the residence.  Fire, heat and water damage was moderate in the bedroom.  The rest of the residence had heat and smoke damage. 

Two male occupants were displaced because of the damage to the rental property.  

The Quincy Fire Department had four engines, the incident commander, and 12 firefighters on scene, along with the Volunteer Rehab Team.  Assisting at the scene were Quincy Police Department and Adams County EMS.

There were no civilian injuries reported, but one minor injury to a Quincy firefighter was reported.  

Two investigators were called to the scene to determine origin and cause.  Investigation revealed the cause the fire was accidental and that they could not rule out misuse of an incense burner or smoking materials.
