Historical Society announces temporary change of venue to Senior Center for monthly programs
QUINCY — The board of directors of the Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County has announced a temporary change of venue for its monthly programs, which now will be held in the Quincy Senior and Family Resource Center, 639 York.
In a press release, board president Lynn Niewohner said, “This is a temporary change of venue for our monthly programs. Due to the lack of handicap accessibility at the History Museum on the Square at 332 Maine, we are scheduling most future programs at the Quincy Senior and Family Resource Center.
“Many who attend our monthly programs have difficulty navigating the two flights of steps to the second floor Stained Glass Gallery, where most of our programs are held. And there are some in the community who would like to attend our programs but do not because it is so challenging to get to the second floor.”
Timothy Jacobs, chair of the society’s program committee, said, “Our committee also considered the fact that our maximum crowd size is dictated by the municipal fire code. We do not want to exceed that capacity, and many of our programs have drawn large crowds. At our most recent program, people were packed into the gallery.”
Niewohner emphasized this is only a temporary solution.
“For many years, the society has been considering the addition of an elevator and ground level access to the History Museum. Those plans are still being discussed,” she said.
