Monroe County Historical Society publishes cemetery book, CD

MC historical

PARIS, Mo. — The Monroe County Historical Society recently published a comprehensive book and photo CD for 10 cemeteries in Monroe County — Union, Mount Airy, Atterberry, Dry-Hulen, Dunaway, Forest Grove, Fox, Heathman, Jackson Chapel and Lasley-Gillispie.

This is the 11th volume in a series of updated cemetery transcriptions with a companion photo CD published by MCHS.

All surviving headstones in each cemetery were examined and photographed and then compared to previous transcriptions, death certificates, obituaries and other records available to the Historical Society. The booklet contains a history of each cemetery, an alphabetical list of known burials with birth and death dates, plus a relationship chart that gives the location as well as the name of a spouse and/or parents as determined from the headstone and other available records. The companion CD contains photos of all existing headstones in each cemetery.

Copies of the book and CD are available for purchase at the Monroe County Historical Society, 124 Caldwell, in Paris. The cost is $20 for the book and $5 for the CD. To buy by mail, send order information and payment to Monroe County Historical Society, P.O. Box 131, Paris, Mo., 65275. There will be an additional $5 charge for mailing.

Booklets and CDs are available for each of the earlier cemetery sets (1 thru 10) as well as copies of the book, “The World War I Soldiers of Monroe County, Missouri,” and other publications by the Historical Society.

The Monroe County Historical Society is a non-profit 501 (C) 3 corporation founded in 1967 to preserve the history of Monroe County. All profits from the sale of these booklets support that mission.
