‘Is Religion Necessary for the Common Good?’ to be debated Wednesday at QU’s MacHugh Theatre

QUINCY — Quincy University’s School of Humanities and Campus Ministries will be the host of a debate on the topic, “Is Religion Necessary for the Common Good?”, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, in MacHugh Theatre in Francis Hall on QU’s main campus, 1800 College.

The debate will feature Daniel Strudwick, professor of theology, and Jessica Howell, director of campus ministries, arguing in favor. Neil Wright, professor of political science, and Robert Manning, professor of philosophy, will argue in opposition.

Each presenter will share their opinion on the topic and have a chance to respond to one another. Attendees then will be invited to engage in a group discussion.

In a press release, Howell said, “The purpose of the debate is to engage the QU community in a conversation that facilitates civil dialogue and critical thinking about a topic that has implications in all of our lives.”
