HANNIBAL, Mo. — Northeast Missouri Humane Society announced 24 adoptions during its participation in BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Fall National “Empty the Shelters” event.

NEMO Humane Society participated in the event from Oct. 1-15, by offering $50 dog and $0 adult cats for adoption including dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens

Nationwide, a  total of 19,415 pets were adopted from 345 shelters in 42 states.

“Empty the Shelters” is BISSELL Pet Foundation’s largest initiative and continues to grow each year to provide critical relief to overcrowded shelters. Since the event’s inception in 2016, nearly 210,000 pets have found loving homes through this lifesaving event. BISSELL Pet Foundation provides grants for each adoption – $50 per dog and $20 per cat – allowing shelters to reduce adoption fees to $50 or less. Pets must be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before being adopted out, an additional cost savings for the family, making the choice to adopt even more affordable.

“BISSELL Pet Foundation is thrilled to have helped thousands of pets find homes during a time when our nation’s shelters are struggling to keep up with pet intakes,” said Cathy Bissell, founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “Each adopter who brought home a pet during this event made a lifesaving difference.”

“We were able to help Quincy Humane Society by adopting out all of our dogs that we had transferred in from their shelter, as well as our long term dogs that lived at our shelter,” Elise Blue, director of the Northeast Missouri Humane Society said. For more information on adopting or donating to “Empty the Shelters,” visit www.bissellpetfoundation.org/empty-the-shelters as well as www.nemohumane.com.
