The District to kick off holiday season with music, activities and Santa in Washington Park on Saturday
QUINCY — The District will kick off the holiday season with the lighting of Washington Park on Saturday, Nov. 25. Activities are scheduled from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Music in the gazebo by the Quincy Concert Band’s low brass ensemble will start at 5:30 p.m. with Santa arriving in a new sleigh accompanied by dancers from Vancil Performing Arts Center at 6 p.m. Free hot chocolate and cookies will be available thanks to Kohl Wholesale. After the lighting of the park, Santa will be in his house for visitors from 6 to 8 p.m.
The Quincy Museum will offer a sock skating rink with background music provided by Lyons Pride Entertainment. Food and drink items will be sold by CC’s Coffee and Big Brothers Food Truck.
People attending can donate a used book to the Friends of the Library bookstore and be entered to win a pair of roundtrip tickets on Southern Airways Express to their choice of Chicago or St. Louis. A return visit to the park on Nov. 30, Dec. 7 and/or Dec. 14 will offer more chances to win airplane tickets. Santa will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. each night.
