HANNIBAL, Mo. — Hannibal Regional recently announced the addition of nephrologist Dr. Karol Rosner to their team of physicians.

Rosner completed his medical education at the University of Illinois and an internal medicine residency at Southern Illinois University in Springfield. His completed a fellowship in nephrology at Northwestern University in Chicago.

Nephrologists play a crucial role in diagnosing, treating and managing acute and chronic kidney problems and diseases. Kidneys are vital because they filter waste and toxins from the blood, maintaining a balance of water, acid-base and minerals in the body.

In a press release, Rosner said, “I enjoy working with people who have manageable chronic illnesses. I help them to learn that they can live with kidney disease, and I especially enjoy educating and encouraging them about strategies to maximize kidney health. Additionally, I love math, and nephrology is very formula and numbers oriented.

“Hannibal reminds me of a larger version of the small community that I grew up in. I had visited several times (as a tourist) and was impressed by the friendliness of the people. This was echoed when I visited the hospital and medical group. I look forward to the challenge of bringing a new specialty to Hannibal Regional.”

With the addition of Dr. Rosner, Hannibal Regional is adding a needed service to the community, offering more choices for specialized care without having to travel.

“Kidney disease can be a very intimidating label,” Rosner said. “I enjoy educating my patients about what the labels mean and how, as a team, we can address some of the most important issues. I view myself as an advisor and supporter, not someone who dictates. By actively listening and understanding my patients, I can effectively communicate at a level where they feel most comfortable. I offer options and firmly believe that working together is essential to achieving the desired results.”
