QUINCY — People interested in joining the fight against heart disease are invited to buy a ticket to attend the Heart of our Community Gala on Feb. 10 at the Oakley-Lindsay Center. The fundraising event helps address the unmet needs of Blessing heart patients and enhances medical technology available to patients and supports staff continuing education.

For ticket prices and to make a reservation, visit blessinghealth.org/heartgala or call the Blessing Foundation at 217-223-8400, ext. 4800. The evening includes a meal and entertainment. Formal dress is suggested.

In a press release, Dr. Steven Krause, cardiologist at Blessing Heart and Vascular Center, said, “It’s understandable to think of a heart attack as a singular event in a person’s life. In reality, heart disease is a lifetime condition and concern. Access to the highest quality care locally, and support with unmet needs if required, is vital to patients and their loved ones.”

Blessing’s heart services are marking two milestones in regional care: 20 years of providing open heart surgery and 10 years of cardiac electrophysiology services. Cardiac electrophysiology is care for people living with abnormal heart rhythms. Abnormal heart rhythms can contribute to life-threatening stroke, heart failure or cardiac arrest.

“Heart disease is not just a Quincy issue,” said Dr. John H. Arnold, cardiothoracic surgeon at Blessing Heart and Vascular Center. “Heart disease affects the residents of every community Blessing Health serves. The funds raised by Heart of our Community Gala benefis all who seek heart care from Blessing.”

The Blessing Foundation administers donated funds on behalf of all Blessing Health’s services. During the past five years of the gala, more than $200,000 has been invested to address unmet patient needs, new technology and staff education.
