50 Years: Jan and Crayton Achelpohl

Crayton and Jan (Wroblewski) Achelpohl celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on November 24, 2023. They were married in the Quincy College (University) Chapel in 1973 and recently renewed their wedding vows in Cana of Galilee. Together they have raised a wonderful family that includes two daughters, Jessica and Mary; two son-in laws, Mark and Adam and five grandchildren, Amelia, Callen, Olivia, Nora and Emerson.
Crayton was born to Iola and Willis Achelpohl and raised in Quincy, IL. He attended Quincy College where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Management.
Jan was born in Elmhurst, IL. to Vivian Wroblewski and Leo Rhodes. After high school she enrolled at Quincy College and subsequently earned her degree in Organizational Management from Hannibal La Grange University. She met Crayton while studying in the college library and he was passing through on his way to the student union.
Jan and Crayton have shared countless adventures throughout their 50 years. Crayton built a successful career in credit unions and was the CFO at United Community Credit Union upon his retirement in 2019. Jan retired from the City of Quincy Police Department in May 2022.
Both share a passion for travel and have visited numerous minor and major league baseball parks. Their favorite trips are their annual Mimi and Papa trips with their grandchildren only—NO PARENTS ALLOWED. They have passed their love of travel and exploration on to their children and grandchildren regularly enjoying taking trips with family and friends.
Their proudest accomplishments and greatest joys in life come from their roles as parents and grandparents. Jan and Crayton celebrated this milestone anniversary with a family trip to Cancun, Mexico. Jessica and Mary gave them an anniversary card shower which resulted in more than seventy congratulatory cards from friends and relatives.
