Catherine Darlene Doyle

On December 25, 2023 at 5:02 am, Catherine Darlene Doyle, 84, passed away peacefully in Blessing Hospice Care with her son, daughter and son-in-law by her side.

Darlene, “Dee Dee”, was born March 4, 1939 in St. Elizabeth Hospital in Hannibal, Mo. a daughter to Albert L. Juette and Catherine Bowen Juette. She grew up in Palmyra, Mo. where she attended Catholic grade school and graduated from Palmyra High School in 1957.

Survivors include her two children, her pride and joy, son Monty Doyle of Palmyra and daughter and “best friend “Julie Gerst (John) of Quincy. Brother, Bow Juette of Hannibal, Grandchildren Tyler Gerst and Taylor Gerst; Colt Doyle ( Emilee ), Catie Dancer (Max), Case Doyle, Casch Doyle all cherished children of Robin Colgrove; Bryden Doyle beloved child of Nikki Cory. Great grandchildren Oaklee Doyle, Bodie Dancer, and Pax Dancer. Nephew David Juette ( Brenda) and Brian Juette (Stacey). And great nephews Bowen Juette, Jansen Juette, Bronson Juette and Caleb Juette.

All family and extended family had a special place in Dee Dee’s heart. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, infant great grandchild Hawk Dean Doyle and former husband Ron Doyle.

Growing up in Palmyra, Darlene’s first job was delivering the newspaper on her bicycle. After high school she worked as a teller at Palmyra State Bank. Once married, she moved to Quincy where she dedicated herself to raising her two children. She taught them many lessons in life that are cherished by her children.

Darlene volunteered her time and talent to several organizations.

She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church where she dedicated her time to the church and grade school. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Hospital Guild where she served as co-manager of the hospital gift shop with her dear friend, Dorothy Cudney. She was a member of the Quincy Service League and a Boy Scout den mother. She also enjoyed using her talent to decorate for various social events. Later in life she became a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church.

Darlene was a beautiful and kind woman who was passionate about many things. She enjoyed traveling, especially her trips to Europe with her father. She loved decorating for the holidays and celebrating with her family. Her favorite song was“ America the Beautiful” because she dearly loved this country.

She was a stylish lady who always dressed in fashion from head to toe.

She enjoyed playing bridge, collecting antiques, and boating on the Mississippi River. She frequently dined at Gem City Pizzeria, eating the “Dee Dee Delight” sausage, mushroom and green pepper pizza. It became a ritual to dine at Kelly’s with her daughter after Sunday church, eating prime rib sliders and Diet Pepsi with a lemon! Her favorite dessert was a Culver’s hot fudge sundae.

She loved working in her beautiful yard, especially in the spring when the daffodils were blooming. She loved animals especially her schnauzers Mitzi, Scampi and Molly. Sometimes she was a little too passionate about things and was stubborn, this is where she earned the nickname the “Missouri Mule”!!

She was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was like one of the kids, down on her knees playing Hungry Hippo or Hot Wheels. Fond memories were always made when you went to “Dee Dee’s” house! And even more memories were made when she took you to the KC BBQ!!!

Darlene was always there to help others. Even in her later years she wanted to help open a door for another or bring back a prayer card from church to a resident at Cedarhust.

She will be dearly missed, but how she had an effect on so many lives, young and old. She will forever be in our hearts. A special thank you to everyone at Cedarhurst and Blessing Hospital for their passion and care for Dee Dee.

Honorary Pallbearers are: Catie Dancer, Bowen Juette, and Jansen Juette

Services will be Friday, December 29, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Peter. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Palmyra, MO.

Family and Friends are invited to visitation Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Church of St. Peter or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
