QUINCY — The Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program and the Hancock County Health Department are partnering with Quincy Medical Group to offer free mammograms to Illinois residents who have no health insurance or have high-deductible health insurance plans.

Interested people are invited to the “Think Pink All Year!” event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, at Quincy Senior and Family Resource Center, 639 York. (EDITOR’S NOTE: Because of the weather, this event has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 16.)

During the event, attendees who qualify for the program will have the opportunity to complete an enrollment application as well as consult with medical professionals specializing in breast cancer screenings and procedures.

In a press release, Marissa Radcliffe, QMG community healthcare worker, said, “It’s a chance for people to receive crucial health information and services which can be particularly beneficial for people who might otherwise face barriers due to lack of insurance or high deductibles.”

Luanna Flagg, QMG community healthcare worker, emphasized the importance of cancer screenings such as mammograms in detecting cancer at its earliest stage. She added, “When cancer care is delayed or inaccessible, there is a lower chance of survival. We want to increase awareness and help individuals get the care that they need.”

Following is a list of identifications needed by people attending the event.

  • Income verification (two most recent paycheck stubs or recent 1040 tax forms)
  • Age verification (driver’s license copy, ID card or birth certificate)
  • Medicaid verification (copy of the card)
  • Insurance verification (copy of the front and back of the card)

People determined eligible for the program will be scheduled for a mammogram on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at QMG at 1118 Hampshire.
