Tickets on sale now for ‘Matilda: The Musical’; Discovery Night set for Feb. 6, opening night set for Feb. 16
QUINCY — Tickets to the 2024 season-opening show “Matilda: The Musical” at the Quincy Community Theatre now are on sale to the general public, with opening night scheduled for Friday, Feb. 16. The free Discovery Night, an event showcasing the production process, a live rehearsal preview and a discussion of show topics, will be held Tuesday, Feb. 6.
Inspired by the twisted genius of Roald Dahl, “Matilda the Musical” revels in the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination. Matilda Wormwood is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers. She’s unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, Miss Honey. During her first term at school, the two forge a bond as Miss Honey begins to recognize and appreciate Matilda’s astonishing personality.
Matilda’s school life isn’t completely smooth sailing, however. The school’s mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and loves to punish those who don’t abide by her rules. Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts and could be her classmates’ saving grace. Packed with high-energy dance numbers, catchy songs and a heartwarming story, children and adults alike will see the story of an extraordinary girl who dares to take a stand and change her destiny.
“Matilda: The Musical’s” Discovery Night will be hosted by the show’s director, Deb Currier. The event will allow audience questions and answers with the panel of the production team and cast. Discovery Night will include a preview of a performance from the show in the Barbara Rowell Auditorium. There is no cost to attend, and registration is not required.
The production team is comprised of assistant director Patrick Regner, vocal direction by Monica Scholz, choreography by Alison Shafer, scenic design by Hayley E. Wallenfeldt, lighting design by Erin Thibodaux, costume design by Casey Mercurio, stage management by Gretchen Wolfmeyer and assistant stage manager Cecilia Bruening.
“Matilda: The Musical” will take the stage at Quincy Community Theatre Feb. 16-18 and Feb. 22-25. Tickets are on sale now and begin at $20. Seating is reserved.
