CARTHAGE, Ill. — A report of a lost and disoriented semi-truck driver in Hancock County led to drug charges.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office received a report of the driver at 3 a.m. Thursday. A sheriff’s deputy located the semi-truck and driver on County Road 1000N near the intersection with County Road 2600E. The driver had put the semi-truck into a ditch. He reported people were trying to get into his truck and trailer. However, no one else was located at the scene.

Hancock County EMS was called to the scene, and the driver signed a refusal for treatment.

The driver, John D. Last, 56 of Ottumwa, Iowa, consented to a search of the semi-truck. Methamphetamine and paraphernalia used to ingest methamphetamine were found inside.

Last was charged with possession of methamphetamine and driving under the influence of a controlled substance. He was transported to the Hancock County Jail, where he was lodged pending an initial court appearance.
