Canton man facing assault, stealing charges after incident at Lewis County Nursing Home
CANTON, Mo. — A Canton man is facing multiple charges after an incident on Jan. 31 at the Lewis County Nursing Home.
A press release from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to a call at 8:15 a.m. regarding a domestic assault in progress at the Lewis County Nursing Home. Upon further investigation, it was determined to be an altercation between a husband and wife. A 2-year-old child was present during the altercation.
Cruze R. Fox, 32, was arrested for domestic assault and placed on a 24-hour hold. He remains lodged in the Lewis County Jail on a $17,500 cash-only bond.
A probable cause statement, filed Jan. 31 with the Lewis County Clerk’s office, from Mathias Frank with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department states Fox met his wife at the nursing home, grabbed her purse and began going through it to obtain money he believed she had. Fox grabbed his wife’s hands as she was trying to get her keys and took the wedding ring off her hand.
As his wife and child got into a car, Fox began repeatedly shutting the door. The juvenile child was hit in the face with the door of the vehicle.
Lewis County Prosecuting Attorney Chelsea Fellinger filed formal charges for:
- Domestic assault 3rd degree, a Class E felony;
- Stealing – Physically Taking, a Class D felony;
- Domestic assault 4th Degree, a Class A misdemeanor;
- Endangering the welfare of a child 2nd degree, a Class A misdemeanor.
Judge Corey Moon issued a warrant for the charges.
The Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Canton Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
