MoDOT to be host of public meeting Wednesday about U.S. 61 Expressway EIS Re-Evaluation Study

HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Transportation will be the host of a public information meeting about the U.S. 61 EIS Re-Evaluation Study from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21 in the Hannibal High School cafeteria, 4500 McMasters Ave.

The meeting will provide an overview for the two phases of the study, share initial findings and allow the community to provide input. There is currently no funding for construction. 

No formal presentation will be made. Interested parties can stop by to speak with the project team and provide input. An online component with the same information and exhibits from the in-person meeting will be available online on the project webpage. Participants can provide comments via an electronic comment form. The public comment period will be from Feb. 21 to March 8.

The existing U.S. Route 61 Expressway through Hannibal serves as a link along the Avenue of the Saints corridor between St. Louis and Minneapolis/ St. Paul, Minn. The project team has conducted the U.S. Route 61 Expressway Re-Evaluation Study, as well as reviewed potential improvements to the existing corridor. The purpose of any proposed improvements is to accommodate increased travel demand and improve safety on U.S. Route 61 within Hannibal.
