Seven agree to plea sentences through Marion County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office in January

MARION COUNTY, Mo. — The Marion County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office closed out seven cases by plea during January in the Circuit Court of Marion County, Missouri.

Chelsea Crane, 22, of Hannibal pleaded guilty on Jan. 3 to felony assault. Crane admitted that on July 14, 2023, she caused physical pain to a female victim by striking her in the head. Judge Rachel Bringer-Shepherd granted Crane a suspended imposition of sentence and placed her on five years of felony supervised probation under several conditions, including that she completes anger management, pay restitution and not have contact with the victim. This case was investigated by the Hannibal Police Department. 

Daniel Lee Crane, 54, of Hannibal pleaded guilty Jan. 16 to felony receiving stolen property and felony possession of a controlled substance. Crane admitted that on July 28, 2022, he deprived a female victim of her alprazolam pills knowing that it had been stolen and was a controlled substance. Crane also pleaded guilty to felony arson. He admitted that on April 25, 2023, he damaged an apartment building at Chloe Place by starting a fire. Judge Rachel Bringer-Shepherd sentenced him to serve seven years in prison on each count (concurrent) but suspended execution of those sentences and placed him on five years felony supervised probation under several conditions, including that he completes counseling, pays restitution and has no contact with the victims. These cases were investigated by the Hannibal Police Department. 

Brendan John Garrelts, 25, of Hannibal pleaded guilty Jan. 16 to felony assault and felony armed criminal action. Garrelts admitted that on December 13, 2022, he caused physical harm to a male victim using a firearm that is a deadly weapon. Judge Rachel Bringer-Shepherd sentenced him to serve eight years in prison (consecutive) but suspended the execution of those sentences and placed him on five years of felony supervised probation under several conditions, including that he complete counseling. This case was investigated by the Hannibal Police Department. 

Teresa Ann Murphy, 38, of Hannibal pleaded guilty Jan. 16 to three counts of felony possession of a controlled substance. Murphy admitted that on August 22, 2022, November 2, 2022, and on January 6, 2023, she possessed methamphetamine. Murphy pleaded guilty to felony stealing. Murphy admitted that on May 27, 2023, she took a gaming laptop from Walmart without buying it. The Judge sentenced Murphy to serve seven years in prison on each count (concurrent) but suspended the execution of those sentences to allow her to complete a 120-day institutional treatment center program. She then will be placed on five years of felony supervised probation under several conditions, including counseling, pay restitution and not have contact with the victim. These cases were investigated by the Hannibal Police Department. 

Haley Regina Nicole Belcher, 26, of Center pleaded guilty Jan. 16 to felony arson. Belcher admitted that on June 27, 2023, she damaged a home owned by a male victim by starting a fire. Judge David Mobley granted Belcher a suspended imposition of sentence and placed her on five years of felony supervised probation under several conditions, including that she complete counseling, pay restitution and not have contact with the victim. This case was investigated by the Hannibal Police Department and the Missouri State Fire Marshal. 

Patrick Ray Allen, 35, of Hannibal pleaded guilty Jan. 26 to felony burglary. Allen admitted that on November 22, 2022, he entered a male victim’s home to commit stealing. Allen also pleaded guilty to felony stealing. Allen admitted that on December 5, 2022, he took a box trailer and tools without permission from a male victim. Judge Rachel Bringer-Shepherd sentenced Allen to serve five years on both cases (concurrent) in the Missouri Department of Corrections and to pay restitution. Both cases were investigated by the Hannibal Police Department. 

Travis Lee Rickey, 25, of Hannibal pleaded guilty Jan. 16 to felony resisting a lawful detention. Rickey admitted that on June 28, 2023, he resisted an arrest by fleeing from the officer. Judge Rachel Bringer-Shepherd sentenced him to serve four years in prison but suspended the execution of that sentence and placed him on five years of felony supervised probation under several conditions, including that he completes counseling. This case was investigated by the Hannibal Police Department
