QUINCY — Quincy High School Athletic Director Matt McClelland will be the next director of the West Central Region Education for Employment System and Quincy Area Vocational Technical Center.

Quincy Public Schools Superintendent Todd Pettit made the announcement today that he is recommending McClelland for the position and the Quincy School Board will vote on the appointment at its next meeting on Feb. 28.

The move would be effective July 1 and McClelland will work with current QAVTC director, Evie Morrison, until her retirement in December 2024.

“Matt has proven leadership skills through his role as athletic director and has a background in agriculture,” said Morrison.

McClelland has been a part of QPS for 20 years as a teacher and coach. Before assuming his current position as athletic director in 2021, McClelland taught 8th grade science at Quincy Junior High School. McClelland is certified in agricultural education, horticulture and agriculture business management.

“As athletic director, he has shown a willingness to make needed changes and has the drive and vision to implement those changes,” QHS Principal Jody Steinke said of McClelland. “He will be every bit as good as the QAVTC director.”

Matt Schuckman will have more from McClelland and the future of the QHS athletic director position in Muddy River Sports.
