Letter to the Editor: Tracy promises to fight against Pritzker’s budget calling for extra $1 billion in taxes

Sen. Jil Tracy

Gov. JB Pritzker has proposed a record-breaking $53 billion budget and is asking Illinoisans to pay an extra $1 billion in taxes in the coming year to cover the costs of a fiscal crisis of his own making — supporting the thousands of noncitizens he invited to Illinois.

Since taking office, Pritzker has increased spending on noncitizen programs from just a few million dollars per year to roughly a billion dollars by offering services from free housing to free healthcare. The governor has made it clear that Illinoisans are not his priority. They are a source of tax dollars he needs to pay for these programs.

Such out-of-control spending by Democratic leaders is unsustainable and puts Illinois’ fiscal future in jeopardy. The governor’s tax increases would hit families yet again by cutting the standard deduction. His plan would also go after small and large job creators, leaving Illinoisans earning less, paying more for goods and services, or both.

I am committed to fighting the governor’s proposed billion-dollar tax increase and providing real relief to the citizens of our state. Please join me in telling Pritzker “no” to his new tax hikes. Sign my petition at https://senatorjiltracy.com/say-no-to-tax-hikes-petition/ .
