Moore rolls to victory in Illinois 99th House race

QUINCY – Former Quincy mayor Kyle Moore won all five counties that make up the 99th District in the Illinois House of Representatives and easily defeated Eric Snellgrove of Beardstown in Tuesday’s Republican Primary.

Moore, who is currently the president of the Great River Economic Development Foundation, won the five county district with 73.5 percent of the vote.

“It’s been a great experience meeting so many new people throughout the district and to have folks in all five counties show up to support me really means a lot,” Moore said at Tuesday night’s Adams County GOP gathering at Dick Bros. Brewery.

Moore thanked Snellgrove for running a clean campaign and said he was pleasantly surprised to win in his opponent’s backyard.

“There’s a lot of good folks in Cass County,” Moore said. “I just want to say thank you to Eric Snelgrove… He’s somebody that has given service to his country and service to his community. I’m sure we’ll be working together in the future.”

There was no Democrat on Tuesday’s primary ballot for the 99th House seat. The party chairs from all five counties in the district could still appoint someone to fill the ballot vacancy for November’s general election, so Moore said he didn’t want to take anything for granted.

“I think this really shows that we’ve got a lot of strength here in the 99th District,” he said. “Obviously you hope for no opponent, but you’ve got to expect it. So, this is just the first step of a two-step process. And I’ve been telling people that just because we’ve won this race doesn’t mean we won the whole thing.”

State Representative Norrine Hammond of Macomb (R-94th District) and C.D. Davidsmeyer of Murrayville (R-100th District) were unopposed in their respective Illinois House races. Hammond represents voters in northern Adams County as well as Hancock, McDonough, Henderson, Fulton, Knox, Mason, Mercer, Schuyler, Rock Island and Tazewell counties.

Davidsmeyer represents voters in the southern half of Adams County as well as parts of Pike, Scott, Morgan, Calhoun, Greene, Jersey, Macoupin and Madison counties.
