QUINCY — Quincy University’s School of Humanities will be the host of a debate on the topic, “Is Religion Essential for the Common Good?” at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 25, in MacHugh Theatre in Francis Hall on QU’s main campus at 1800 College.

The debate will feature Jonathan Miles, professor of philosophy, and Padraic Rohan, assistant professor of history, arguing in favor. Neil Wright, associate professor of political science, and J. Matthew Ward, assistant professor of history, will argue in opposition.

Each presenter will share their opinion on the topic and have a chance to respond to one another. The attendees then will be invited to engage in a group discussion.

“More than ever, our society suffers from a lack of civil debate,” Rohan said in a press release. “This event is intended to bring the QU community and the public together in constructive dialogue on how best to understand and strive for the common good.”
