Xanadu

CANTON, Mo. — Culver-Stockton College Department of Theatre will present “Xanadu” by Douglas Carter Beane, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 4, Friday, April 5, and Saturday, April 6. A matinee show is also scheduled for 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 7. All performances will be in the Mabee Foundation Little Theatre/Black Box of the Robert W. Brown Performing Arts Center.

Based on the movie starring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly, “Xanadu” follows the journey of a magical Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mount Olympus to Venice Beach, Calif., in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time – the first roller disco. When Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation, and chaos abounds.

Director and professor of theatre Haidee Heaton and music director Monica Scholz lead the production team, which consists of lighting designer and senior lecturer of theatre David Lane, set designer and technical director Michael York and students Megan Eaton (costume design) and Cassie Williams (choreography).

Admission is free to C-SC students, faculty and staff. Admission for the public is $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.
