Rope rescue training at Lover’s Leap in Hannibal set for Tuesday, Wednesday

Hannibal Fire Department

HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Hannibal Fire Department will be conducting rope rescue training on the top of Lover’s Leap at 1 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Firefighters will simulate rescue operations over the side of the cliff. This exercise will include firefighters using their technical rope rescue rappelling skills to descend over the edge of Lover’s Leap, simulating a rescue of a victim and then setting up rope haul systems to bring the victim and rescuers to safety.

The Hannibal Fire Department performed in August 2009 a daring rescue of two women, whose car plunged off the foot of the Lover’s Leap river view cliff. Below is a video of this rescue.
