Dennis D. Fischer, 78, of Quincy, passed away at 11:27 pm Monday, April 29, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

Dennis was born December 27, 1945, in Quincy, IL to Frank and Marie (Mennel) Fischer.

Dennis was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mona (McGinnis) Fischer, on April 28, 1979, at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Quincy, IL. Their union was blessed with 45 years of shared memories and unwavering partnership. Mona survives, carrying forward the legacy of their love.

The proud father of four children, Dennis’s legacy is continued through Eric Fischer (Stacy) of Quincy, Erin Fischer (Devin) of Quincy, Eben Fischer of Moreno Valley, CA, and Coby Klauser of Quincy. His role as a grandfather and great-grandfather brought him immense joy, a role he cherished with every fiber of his being. His grandchildren, Austin Fischer (Kameron), Abigail Lair (Andrew), and Arianna “Penguin” Fischer, as well as his great-grandchildren, Ivy and Sage Fischer, will forever hold dear the memories of their beloved Grandpa.

Dennis is also survived by his brothers, Ronald Fischer (Jackie) and Steve Fischer (Patty); his sister, Judy Caspermeyer; sisters-in-law, Mary Fischer and Lori Klauser; brothers-in-law, Dennis Dodd and John Johnson; in-law Aunt Ellen Stockhecke; and a host of loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Marie Fischer; his sisters, Sister Marilyn Fischer and Cynthia Fischer; his brother, Alan Fischer; his nephew, Jerome Fischer; his niece, Angie Klauser; his parents-in-law, Montgomery and Lela Dodd; and his brother-in-law, George Caspermeyer.

Dennis was a proud graduate of Christian Brothers in 1964. His professional life was largely spent working alongside his father at Fischer Builders, where he honed his skills as a carpenter for 40 years. His dedication to craftsmanship was matched only by his commitment to service, as evidenced by his time as a Cubmaster for Pack 21 at Adams School.

A man of many interests, Dennis was known for his handy nature, often found tinkering and making home improvements. His love for fishing was well-known, with many happy hours spent at Lucky Lakes in Palmyra, where a successful catch meant a delicious fried catfish dinner. An excellent cook, Dennis was also a master at the grill. His favorite restaurant was Elders, a place of special significance as it was where he met Mona.

Dennis’s love for sports and golf often graced the television screen in his home, yet he was equally committed to his weekly viewing of the Quincy City Council Meetings. An avid reader, he kept up with current events through the Quincy Herald Whig. Above all, Dennis was a devoted family man. He cherished family car rides to admire the fall foliage and embraced every opportunity to hold his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dennis’s life was one of purpose and joy, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him. His unwavering love for his family, his dedication to his community, and his passion for life’s simple pleasures have left a lasting mark on the hearts of many.

A visitation will be held at O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy, IL on Monday, May 6, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and again on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.

A funeral ceremony will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at the O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home. Deacon Harry Cramer will officiate. Burial will follow at Quincy Memorial Park in Quincy, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made to O’Donnell-Cookson to make a memorial in Dennis’ name at a later date.
