Daily Dirt: So, you’re craving a Big Mac? Hopefully you’re anywhere but Antarctica

Daily Dirt for Sept. 24, 2021

Vol. 77 of the Daily Dirt is nothing short of a treasure trove of information. Sit back, relax, grab the Froot Loops and enjoy today’s three thoughts:

1. Any day you can learn something is a good day, right? You can thank me later for the following information:

A. There is a McDonald’s on every continent except Antarctica.

B. Most toilet paper sold in France is pink.

C. Animals that lay eggs don’t have bellybuttons.

D. The different colors of those Froot Loops all actually taste the same. They’re not individual flavors.

E. Three presidents, all founding fathers — John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe — died on July 4. Adams and Jefferson also died in the same year, 1826. Monroe died in 1831.

F. There are 132 rooms in the White House, including 35 bathrooms. Speaking of the White House, it takes 570 gallons to paint the building’s exterior.

G. “Psycho” was the first movie to show a toilet flushing.

H. There are no muscles in your fingers. Their function is controlled by muscles in your palms and arms. (Admit it, you just looked at one of your hands and moved your fingers, didn’t you?)

I. Hawaiian pizza was created in Ontario, Canada, by a Greek immigrant named Sam Panopolous in 1962.

J. Lincoln logs were created by John Lloyd Wright, son of the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright, in the 1920s. They were named after Abraham Lincoln, who grew up in a log cabin.

2. Football thought: Should we just go ahead and anoint Alabama as national champion — again? Alabama is 68-17 against top-25 teams since 2008. The Crimson Tide simply exists on a different level, thanks to coach Nick Saban. College football fans tend to forget what Alabama was like prior to Saban’s arrival in 2007. Well, let me remind you … do the names Mike Shula, Dennis Franchione and Mike DuBose ring a bell. Those were the Crimson Tide coaches from 1997-2006 and Alabama’s combined record those years was 67-55, including seasons of 4-9, 3-8 and 4-7.

3. This serves as reminder: Two weeks from today, the new James Bond film, “No Time to Die,” arrives in U.S. theaters. I’ll see you there. I’d also like to sign a petition begging Daniel Craig to stay on for at least one more role as 007.

The No. 1 song when I graduated from high school was “Oh Girl” by the Chi-Lites. That was early June 1972 for those wondering.
