Celebrate Quincy’s German roots Friday and Saturday in South Park

QUINCY — Germanfest, the Quincy Sister City Commission’s annual event, will return to Quincy May 31 and June 1. This free family event celebrates Quincy’s German roots with music, food, drinks and more in Quincy’s South Park. Hours are 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and 3 to 11 p.m. Saturday.

Germanfest will feature two German bands, the Waterloo German Band and the Wurst Bavarian Band. Also performing will be the Wir Tanzen Dancers.

Kinderplatz (children’s area) will be open from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday. The children’s area is free and offers various kiddie games and prizes. Soda will be available courtesy of Quincy Children’s Museum, the Quincy Art Center, the Quincy Public Library and Refreshment Services Pepsi. County Market has donated sugar cookies to be iced and decorated, and various kiddie games will be availab le.

Authentic German food, beer and fair food will be available for purchase from Harrison HyVee catering and Chuck’s Grilling with various food such as brats, sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. Meltons will offer ribbon fries, pretzels, corn dogs, tenderloins, lemonade and strawberry shakeups.

Desserts and iced treats will be available from Underbrinks and Tri-State SnoBiz.   

People can park in South Park or use the shuttle service provided by the Quincy Notre Dame boys basketball team.
