Quincy University announces three Fall 2024 Presidential Scholarship recipients

QUINCY — Three incoming students at Quincy University have been awarded the Presidential Scholarship, the most prestigious academic scholarship offered to undergraduate students at QU.

The newest recipients are Kayla Flange of Belleville, Mich., Madison Hester of Golden and Grace Welch of Camp Point.

“We are delighted to welcome these three accomplished Presidential Scholars to Quincy University,” QU President Brian McGee said in a press release. “These outstanding new students will be successful scholars and leaders in the classroom, the laboratory and the local community. We are eager for them to take their place in Quincy as part of our next generation of servant-leaders.”

“I am incredibly honored and grateful to have been awarded the Quincy University Presidential Scholarship,” Hester said. “This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication I have invested in my education. With this scholarship, I am excited to pursue my academic goals and contribute to the vibrant community at Quincy University.”

To be considered for this scholarship, students must attain a minimum ACT score of 26 or a SAT score of 1230 and a high school grade point average of 3.4 or higher. Additionally, qualifying students participate in a rigorous selection process. The two-part selection process includes a timed, written essay and personal interviews with QU faculty. Additional activities included panel discussions and presentations by QU administrators.

Welch expressed how honored she is to receive the QU Presidential scholarship.

“This opportunity propels my journey towards a pre-medicine/biology major, paving the way for my dream of becoming a dermatologist,” she said. “With this support, I’m empowered to make a difference, and for that, I’m truly thankful.”

“I could not afford to attend Quincy University without this scholarship, so I am extremely grateful to God and the school for granting me this honor,” Flange said. “Thank you so much.”

These Presidential Scholarship students will be members of the President’s Honors College.
