Mary Lee Effrein — Hansen-Spear

Mary Lee Effrein passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 16, 2024 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO, surrounded by her family.

Mary was born in Quincy, IL on May 21, 1942 to Alvin and Florence (Hilgenbrink) Grawe. Much loved, she will be greatly missed by her husband of 59 years, George; her children Janet Hayman (Craig), David (Sonja), and Greg (Stacey); her six grandchildren; and her sister Sr. Carol Grawe SSND. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers Alvin Grawe, Daniel Grawe and Fr. Michael Grawe OFM.

A lifelong resident of Quincy, Mary took great pride in her hometown and relished raising her family here. She was an active member of St. Peter Parish. While raising her family, Mary was a professional seamstress and worked as a bookkeeper. She enjoyed being actively involved with the community through her role as office manager at the Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce for over 20 years and serving on the operating committee for Avenue of Lights.

Services will be held at St Peter Catholic Church in Quincy on Friday, June 21, 2024. Visitation will be held on Friday morning from 9:00am until the time of the Mass at 10:00.

Memorial contributions may be made to St Peter School or Blessing Hospice.
