QUINCY — The Quincy School Board met Wednesday night and did some budgetary house cleaning to wrap up the fiscal year that ends June 30.

The board approved an amended 2023-24 budget to finish with $98.8 million in revenues and $93.5 million in expenses. The $5.3 million fiscal year end surplus means the district now has nearly $56 million in fund balances among all of its accounts, many of which include planned capital and/or life safety expenses.

QPS Chief of Business Operations Ryan Whicker said he will present the 2024-25 budget to the School Board at its August meeting. The budget is tabled for 30 days for public review before the board votes on it in September.

The Board also adopted amended budgets for the West Central Region, Quincy Area Vocational Technical Center and Special Education Association.

The Board also approved new first and fourth grade report cards for next school year that will convert grades from A-B-C-D-F to 1-2-3-4-5. Second, third and fifth grades will pilot the new report cards this year in looking to do the same conversion the following year.

In other action the Board:

  • Adopted district and school improvement plans.
  • Approved new school handbooks along with a new science research class at Quincy High School that will take place after regular school hours.
  • Set School Board meeting dates for the 2024-25 school year, with the first meeting of the new year to be held on July 17.
