Organ trio to feature hometown drummer at Hannibal Arts Council on July 21
HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Hannibal Arts Council, 105 S. Main, will be the site of a performance by the Marty Morrison Trio at 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 21.
The performance will feature an organ trio jazz ensemble format with Brian Ward on organ, Adam Scholzman on guitar and Marty Morrison on drums. The trio frequently plays together in various Kansas City jazz venues and will make the trip to visit Morrison’s hometown to perform.
An organ trio is a form of jazz ensemble consisting of three musicians: a Hammond organ player, a drummer and either a jazz guitarist or a saxophone player. Organ trios were a popular type of jazz ensemble for club and bar settings in the 1950s and 1960s, performing a blues-based style of jazz that incorporated elements of R&B.
