Four local teens earn scholarship dollars after participating in Miss Missouri Teen competition in June

MEXICO, Mo. — Four teens from northeast Missouri competed at the 19th Miss Missouri’s Teen competition in June. Every delegate received scholarships for college as part of their participation in the scholarship organization. 

The Miss Missouri’s Teen class of 2024 includes:

  • Miss Mid-Missouri’s Teen Alana Lemon. She is a daughter of Anna Lemon of Hannibal and a student at Hannibal High School. Alana received a $300 non-finalist scholarship, a $100 scholarship for a non-finalist overall talent award and a $150 scholarship for the Miss Missouri’s Teen Spirit award, which is sponsored by the first Miss Missouri’s Teen 2005, Airen Ferguson Ocheltree. Her service initiative, “Project Bookworm,” advocates and educates residents on the importance of childhood reading. 
  • Miss West County’s Teen Avery Trower. She is a daughter of Mike and Kim Trower of Palmyra and a student at Palmyra High School. Avery received a $300 non-finalist scholarship and the Digital Strategist award for $500, which is sponsored by Miss Missouri’s Teen 2012 Shelby Steingraeber. Avery’s title covers the St. Louis metro area. Her service initiative,  “Don’t Dim Your Sparkle,” focuses on ADHD and anxiety awareness.
  • Miss Northeast’s Teen Emma Pitford. She is a daughter of Travis and Jessica Pitford of Kahoka and a student at Clark County High School. She received a $300 non-finalist scholarship. Emma’s title covers the Kahoka area. Her service initiative, “Hula Hoop 4 Heart Health,” encourages people to get more exercise by using a hula hoop. 
  • Miss Clark County’s Teen Kampbel James. She is a daughter of Doug and Nolene James of Kahoka and ia recent graduate of Clark County High School. She received a non-finalist award as well as a non-finalist overall evening gown award for a total of $400 in scholarships. Kampbel’s title covers northern Missouri. Her service initiative, “Fostering a Brighter Future,” focuses on assisting and advocating for foster children and their families.

The Miss Missouri Scholarship Organization and the Miss Missouri’s Teen Scholarship Program are the top providers of scholarships for females in the state of Missouri. The teen program awarded more than $32,000 in scholarships this year.
