Quincy man facing two felony firearm charges after shooting incident Saturday in front of TJ Maxx

QUINCY — A 21-year-old Quincy man is in the Adams County Jail facing two felony charges after a shooting incident Saturday afternoon.

Alan C. Pacheco was taken into custody and has been charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, a Class 1 felony punishable for between five and 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections if convicted, and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, a Class 4 felony punishable for between one and three years in prison if convicted.

Officers from the Quincy Police Department were dispatched at 2:28 p.m. Saturday, July 6 to 6210 Broadway to a shooting incident in the parking lot in front of TJ Maxx. Officers from the Quincy Police Department, Adams County Sheriff’s Department and the Illinois State Police responded and found a 22-year-old male victim on the ground with apparent gunshot wounds.

Pacheco was taken into custody a short time later after returning to the scene. He and the man who was shot allegedly were involved in an altercation in the parking lot before the shooting. The victim received serious injuries and was transported to Blessing Hospital for treatment. A press release from the Quincy Police Department on late Saturday night reported the victim to be in stable condition.

Earlier reports from the Quincy Police Department noted a second person was taken into custody. However, a QPD official said Saturday night that person was questioned and released.

Pacheco’s first appearance in an Adams County courtroom is expected to be Monday afternoon.
