Clark-James

James J. Clark, 87, of Quincy, passed away at 10:55 pm Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

James was born May 26, 1937, in Hannibal, MO to Ben F. and Elma (Himmell) Clark. He was married to Mary A. Gross on December 20, 1980 at Luther Memorial Church in Quincy, IL. She preceded him on November 2, 2019. He is survived by his son, David H. B. Clark (Tara) of Texas. James was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.

James graduated from Palmyra High School before furthering his education at Gem City College. He dedicated many years of service as a manager at the Missouri Rural Electric Cooperation in Palmyra, MO, until his retirement in 1999. A man of faith, James was a dedicated member of Luther Memorial Church and also enjoyed the fellowship of the Elks Club. His commitment to his community and his church was evident in the way he lived his life, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear.

James had a zest for life and a wide array of interests that kept him active and engaged. He found joy in the simple pleasure of walking, often seen strolling around Bob Mays Park for exercise. An avid reader, he had a particular fondness for mysteries, immersing himself in tales of intrigue and suspense. James’s taste in television was heartwarming and compassionate, favoring Hallmark movies and Animal Rescue Shows. His passion for classic automobiles was unmistakable, particularly his fondness for Cadillacs from the 1930s to 1950s, as well as tin dusters. James and Mary Alice shared some unforgettable journeys together, exploring the beauty of Hawaii, the charm of Nashville, the natural wonders of Utah, and the rich culture of New Mexico. His sense of adventure in his younger years led him to the thrill of riding four-wheelers on various farms with his son David and friends. As the years passed, his love for camaraderie never waned, as evidenced by his standing Wednesday appointment to play card games with his close-knit group of friends.

James J. Clark’s life was one of purpose and joy, and his memory will continue to be a blessing to all who knew him.
