QUINCY — Peggy Tarr of Blessing Hospital in Quincy has been named John Wood Community College Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) of the Year for 2024. Peggy received the award during a luncheon held July 26 at the Quincy Senior and Family Resource Center.

CNAs provide personal assistance with a wide array of daily activities and strive to meet the physical, emotional and social needs of those for whom they care every day.

“The CNA of the Year recognition award was established to shine a spotlight on our Certified Nursing Aides, the frontline heroes of patient care, whose daily efforts truly define the quality of life for those they serve,” said JWCC Director of Allied Health and Emergency Sciences, Kim Buck in a press release.  “The bond they form with those in their care is profound, built on trust, respect and a deep-seated understanding of each patient’s and resident’s individual needs and desires.”

As the 2024 JWCC CNA of the Year, Tarr received a plaque and a variety of gifts donated by local businesses.  A traveling plaque will hang in Blessing Hospital during the coming year, and her name will be added to the JWCC CNA plaque.

Each of the other six nominees received gifts donated by local businesses. The nominees were as follows:

  • Maelyn Emeka, nominated by Blessing Hospital
  • Vanessa Johnson, nominated by Quincy Supportive Living
  • Resty McDonald, nominated by the Illinois Veterans Home
  • Stacy Roberts, nominated by Quincy Healthcare and Senior Living
  • Kendra Traywick, nominated by Good Samaritan Home
  • Logan White, nominated by Luther Manor Retirement and Nursing Center

Earning a CNA certificate from JWCC can be done in one eight-week session and start at several points throughout the year. More information about upcoming CNA classes and career opportunities can be found at jwcc.edu/cna or by calling 217-393-8400.
